THE Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Regional Office 1 will hold two job fairs in Pangasinan on May 1 in line with the observance of Labor Day with this year’s theme “Manggagawang Pilipino: Handa sa Hamon ng Makabagong Panahon.

The job fairs will be held at the SM City in Rosales (may 1-2) and at the Robinson’s Place (May 1) in Calasiao.

Both local and overseas employment opportunities will be available during the fair.

A one-stop shop will be set up to assist jobseekers in their application process with participating government agencies like DOLE, Technical Education Skills and Development Authority (TESDA), Professional Regulation Commission (PRC), Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, Regional Tripartite Wage Productivity Board, National Labor Relation Commission, SSS, Pag-Ibig, PhilHealth, and the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

DOLE Regional Director Grace Ursua, in a press conference last April 24, said the fair aims to help cut down the unemployment rate by helping match jobs with right applicants.

Ursua noted that in the first quarter of the year, some 4,000 of the more than 5,000 applicants in similar job fairs qualified in the available positions and 500 of them were hired on the spot.

“Job fair is a mechanism to prevent illegal recruitment activities,” she added.

In addition to the employment opportunities, the fair will also feature wellness services such as manicure, pedicure, and facial, OFW Libreng Tawag mula sa OWWA, and livelihood and agriculture fairs.–Johanne R. Macob
