SP honors Lingayen’s Mayor Castañeda, 66
LINGAYEN—The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) passed a resolution last week formally expressing its sincerest condolences to the bereaved family of the late mayor Ernesto C. Castañeda Jr. of Lingayen and gave recognition to the various achiements of the capital town’s leader who passed away March 16 at age 66.
The resolution cited the numerous elected positions that the mayor, who was popularly called ‘Jonas’, including being a village chieftain of Barangay Maniboc, an Association of Barangay Chairmen (ABC) president, vice mayor, and mayor for six terms, from 1992-2001 and from 2004 until his passing.
It said the late mayor will be remembered for his public service which was highlighted by various programs and projects that led to socio-economic reforms in Lingayen as well as for his integrity and dedication to his work as a local government official.
“Mayor Castañeda has left a precious legacy of love to his family, dedication and professionalism to his colleagues, kindness to his friends and relatives and admiration and respect to his constituents,” the resolution reads.
The author of the resolution, SP member Von Mark Mendoza, noted, “Mayor Castañeda and this representation had different political views but I believe at this point in time, we, Lingayenses, must stand in solidarity to support the bereaved family at this very saddening moment in the history of Lingayen.”
Castañeda, who succumbed to heart failure, is survived by his spouse, former Mayor Josefina, and his children, Eric, Joy and Shiela.–Johanne R. Macob
