LINGAYEN—With the completion of the construction of additional facilities in the various provincial government hospitals, Gov. Amado T. Espino, Jr. said Pangasinan’s public hospitals are now at par with the private hospitals.

Espino led the inauguration and blessing of the new buildings at Bayambang District Hospital (BDH) in Bayambang town and the Pangasinan Provincial Hospital (PPH) in Bolingit, San Carlos City last March 23.

Espino said while much remains to be done to improve the facilities of the provincial hospitals, he said that these have become hospitals of choice as proven by the increase in clientele after he started the rehabilitation and transformation when he assumed the provincial leadership in 2007.

Provincial Health Officer Dr. Anna De Guzman said the hospitals have been operating beyond their authorized bed capacities like at BDH, which used to operate on a 25-bed capacity and has increased its occupancy rate to 90, while PPH, which operates on a 150-bed capacity, has increased its in-patient to an average of 400.

“We can compete when it comes to diagnostic procedures with the private sector,” De Guzman stressed citing the newly acquired high-tech facilities like digital X-ray, 2D-Echo, Ultrasound and Stress Test machine at the PPH.

De Guzman also announced that PPH will soon acquire a CT Scan.

With the acquisition of these equipment, the governor said “we are moving at par with the private sector”..

The additional health facilities inaugurated at BDH were the Administrative Bldg., a one-stop-shop building which houses the PhilHealth Office, Social Welfare, billing and cashier so that patients will not have the burden of transferring from one building to another, the expanded emergency room, Dietary and Laundry Bldg., Maternal and Neo-Natal, Out-Patient Department, Motorpool and Storage, Powerhouse and Morgue, Canteen and Employees Quarters.

At PPH, the new 7 buildings on top of the 24 buildings the Espino administration erected since 2007 include the OPD Waiting Area, Consultants Clinic, Medical Records and Supply Bldg., New OPD Clinic, Infectious Ward and the Maintenance Bldg.

As this developed PPH Chief Policarpio Manuel expressed gratitude to Espino for the many privileges the hospital has received including the increase in reimbursements from PhilHealth for hospital services as a result of Pangasinan’s distinction as number one province in PhilHealth enrollees.

BDH chief Nicolas Miguel also thanked Espino as his dream for the hospital, which he has served for 33 years, has been fulfilled and that “puwede na siyang magpahinga sa serbisyo.” (PIO/Angeline D. Villanueva)
