Pangasinan prepares for Pista’y Dayat 2013
LINGAYEN—Summer time is beach time and the province has started preparing for its annual Pista’y Dayat, the festival of the sea, which will kick off on April 19 with activities leading up to the May 1 main event.
Dr. Anna De Guzman, chief of the Provincial Health Office (PHO) this year’s event chairman, said the starting event will be the opening of the tourism expo on April 19.
De Guzman noted that Pista’y Dayat 2013 is “longer this year” compared to past years where the festivities were only nine days long.
Events lined up include the Search for Limgas na Pangasinan, Banca Parada, San Miguel Beer (SMB) Village (fire dance, Reggae Night, Acoustic Night, etc), Palaro ng Lahi, Sayawan ed Aplaya, Tacayan ed Dayaw, Mr. and Ms. SK, Labanan ng Biskleta, Pa-boxing sa Gulpo, and Sand Sculpting competition.
The culminating activity will be the colourful Banca Parada and De Guzman said consultations are ongoing on the proposals of including a dragon boat in the fluvial parade or inviting different municipalities to participate to signify solidarity.
“(The activity) is a reflection sa ating gobyerno na kung ikaw ay nakasakay sa bangka at parehas ang direksyon na tutunguhin ninyo ng pagsagwan ay mabibitbit natin itong probinsya sa vision and mission ni Governor (Amado T.) Espino (Jr.),” she added.
Other suggested activities that are currently being considered is the Provincial Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Council (PDRRMC) Extra-Challenge, which may include other provinces’ PDRRMC staff; the Mundo na Calangweran, an art contest; and a drum and lyre competition.
The final schedule of events will be announced soon.
