THE Overseas Workers and Welfare Administration (OWWA) has set up five special desks in the province to process the documents of Pangasinenses seeking employment abroad.

Emmanuel Diaz, OWWA officer for Region 1, said almost half of the overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in the region come from Pangasinan and they previously had to go all the way to the OWWA regional office in La Union for their papers.

The OWWA offices in Pangasinan are located at the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) offices in Dagupan City, Alaminos City, Rosales and at the CB Mall in Urdaneta City, and are open every Friday, except the Dagupan office which is open every Wednesday.

There is also an OFW Desk set up by the provincial government at the Public Employment Service office in Lingayen.

LIVELIHOOD ASSISTANCE

Meanwhile, Diaz, speaking during the KBP Forum on Thursday, announced that the OWWA is extending livelihood assistance worth P10,000 to OFWs who are displaced, and loan ranging from P300,000 to P2 million to those with stable employment.

He also clarified that OWWA only handles employment issues while repatriation and other issues are handled by the Department of Foreign Affairs.
