LINGAYEN—The Mines and Geosciences Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (MGB-DENR) will assess the site for proposed housing projects of the provincial government to ensure that it is a suitable location safe from geohazards.

The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) approved last week Resolution No. 1781 authorizing Governor Amado Espino Jr. to enter into a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with MGB-DENR for the conduct of Geological Site Scoping (GSS) and the preparation of Engineering, Geological, and Geohazard Assessment (EGGA) of the residential subdivision.

The resolution states, “to adequately and comprehensively address and mitigate the possible effects/impacts of geologic hazards” DENR requires that in addition to the Environment Compliance Certificate (ECC) and its implementing rules and regulations, EGGA should be undertaken to “all proponents of subdivision development projects, housing projects and other land development and infrastructure projects, private or public.”

The resolution underscored that not all geohazards are due to natural calamities but could also be the result of negligence of assigned authorities.
