Junior NBA holds regional camp in Dagupan
THE Junior NBA Philippines program will return to Dagupan City on March 16 to 17 for the holding of the Regional Selection Camp that will form the Region 1 Jr. NBA team.
Dagupan Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez, regional director of the Basketball Association of the Philippines (BAP) and host of the camp under her Community Service Idol (CSI) project, called on all schools and the barangays to send their players aged 10 to 14 to the two-day camp for them to learn and get a chance to acquire the unique “NBA experience”.
Fernandez said eligible players will be allowed to register on a first come-first served basis.
Day 1 of the Jr. NBA Regional Selection Camp will be for Skill Stations and Clinics then Scrimmages and final selections will be held on Day 2.
The top players of Day 1 will be invited to attend Day 2 that will offer more advanced basketball drills, scrimmages and team-building exercises.
The participants on Day 2 will join 10 representatives from other provincial regions and up to 25 in Greater Manila from whose ranks at least 40 players will be selected to join the Jr. NBA National Training Camp in Manila to be held within this year.
The camp, to be held at the CSI Stadia, will be the second appearance in Dagupan of the Jr. NBA program and sixth for the Alaska Powdered Milk Drink team in the Philippine Basketball Association under head coach Jojo Lastimosa.
Fernandez said NBA-trained coaches and the Alaska team will be on hand to conduct the camp.
The first coaching seminar and basketball clinic for kids was held November last year in Dagupan and other parts of the country.
