LINGAYEN—The war is now on Facebook.

Re-electionist Gov. Amado Espino Jr. and his opponent Alaminos City Mayor Hernani Braganza have taken their political rivalry on the internet using their respective accounts on social media site Facebook.

Espino recently posted in his account what he claims to be the attempts of his enemies to discredit him through a series of allegations, including involvement in jueteng and masterminding the murder of a town mayor.

He did not specify the name of his enemy and the accusations thrown at him, but he said he expects to receive more “falsehoods” from the dirty style of politicking by his rival.

Braganza, on the other hand, posted in his account that he is wondering why he is being faulted every time his opponent, whom he did not name, is dragged into anomalies or crimes.

The mayor did mention the jueteng expose of Bugallon Mayor Rodrigo Orduña who filed a plunder case before the Office of the  Ombudsman against the governor for allegedly receiving millions of pesos in jueteng money.

“Now is the murder case filed against them. And the present is the ongoing investigation of more than 30 unsolved killings in Bolinao, according to the Pangasinan police,” Braganza wrote in Filipino.

“Why, is it my fault that I am a candidate and their political enemy?” he added.

The rivalry between the two also involves former 1st District Rep. Arthur Celeste, brother of re-electionist Rep. Jesus Celeste who are Espino’s allies, who is running for the second time as mayor of Alaminos.

In the 2010 elections, Braganza defeated Arthur Celeste who is now facing Braganza’s son Lean in the May 2013 elections.

Both Jesus Celeste and Espino are facing a murder case filed by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Manila before the Department of Justice for allegedly hatching the murder of  Infanta mayor Ruperto Martinez last December based on a testimony of a 16-year old witness.

Espino said he remains unperturbed as he vowed to continue serving the people.

Braganza, on the other hand, said the people should wait for the next case his enemy might face and expect that he will again be blamed to be behind it.–Eva Visperas
