DPWH allays Dagupan folks’ fears on flooding
PUBLIC Works and Highways 2nd Pangasinan Engineering District’s Engr. Rodolfo Dion allayed fears of Dagupan residents and businessmen that establishments along A.B. Fernandez Ave. will end up being flooded after the major road is elevated.
Dion said the ongoing elevation of the perennially flooded major thoroughfare is compliant with engineering studies and that the city’s major infrastructure has a deep and sturdy drainage system that can hold volumes of water.
“It will free it from flooding and allow people to transport their goods and transact business,” Dion said.
He explained that the regular flooding of A.B. Fernandez Ave., which has affected business, was due to the swelling of the Marusay and Pantal Rivers.
“I wish it had rained harder so the people would see how the new infrastructure would benefit them,” said Dion after rain poured on Wednesday.
Molly Reyes, a Dagupan resident, said the establishment owner’s fears could just be brought about by the current inconvenience due to the ongoing construction work.
“They should be patient for a few weeks because they will soon enjoy the full benefit of a flood-free thoroughfare,” he said.
