Clauna, Molina top “Werweran ed Mangaldan”
MANGALDAN–Former professional cyclist Renier Clauna of Bugallon and Mangaldan’s own ex-amateur standout Benigno Molina topped their respective events in this year’s ‘Werweran ed Mangaldan’ bikefest held March 10 as part of the town’s fiesta celebration.
Using his expertise in flat trek and mountain terrain, the Padyak Pinoy veteran Clauna, 27, outsprinted his five co-breakaway partners in the last 300 meters to win by a bike-length over youthful riders Dominic Perez of Sto. Tomas, and Mark Julius Bordeos of Laoac to pocket the P4,000 top prize with trophy.
Perez and Bordeos received P3,000 and P2,000, respectively, and a trophy each. Ryan Carlo Bravo of Lingayen placed fourth while Reynaldo Calosa, Jr. of San Jacinto finished fifth.
The five clocked the 92 kilometers open-amateur event with an identical clocking of two hours, 18 minutes and 23 seconds.

In another event, Molina came from nowhere and spurted away in the last 200 meters surprising the first group of 18 riders to win the Master-Executive division and bagged the P5,000 major prize with trophy.
Joe Maramba of Dagupan City and Romeo Camingao of Manila came in a close second and third and earned P3,000 and P2,000, respectively.
