Capitol condoles with Castañeda family

LINGAYEN– — “We mourn the death of a dear friend and fellow public servant. His passing away is untimely, a great loss to us, most especially to our constituents.”

This was expressed by Governor Amado T. Espino Jr. when he condoled with the bereaved family of the late Lingayen Mayor Ernesto “Jonas” Castañeda Jr. who passed away last Saturday.

“Mayor Jonas will forever be remembered for his humility, kindness and deep concern for the masses,” Gov. Espino said.

Provincial Administrator Rafael Baraan led a minute of prayer for the eternal repose of the mayor’ soul among the capitol employees and officials during the regular flag-raising ceremony of the provincial government last Monday, March 18.  The flag was hoisted half-mast.

The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) led by Vice Governor Jose Ferdinand Calimlim Jr. during its March 18 regular session passed provincial resolution No. 1820-2013: “Expressing deepest sympathy and sincerest condolences to the bereaved family of the late Mayor Castañeda, Jr. of Lingayen for his untimely demise.”

Board Member Von Mark Mendoza who spoke on behalf of the SP Members said: “Mayor Castañeda’s integrity and dedication to his work as local government official symbolized the epitome of a true and dedicated public servant worthy of emulation.”           

Mayor Castañeda was one of the prominent political leaders of Lingayen who had accomplished his role as local chief executive of the municipality remarkably for six terms (1992-2001) and from 2004 until his passing away, Mendoza noted.

His public service marked by notable programs and projects that led to the socio-economic reform of the town, he added.

The late Mayor has left a precious legacy of love to his family, dedication and professionalism to his colleagues, kindness to his friends and relatives and admiration and respect to his constituents.

Prior to his stint as town mayor, he served as captain of barangay Maniboc, Municipal Association of Barangay Councils (ABC) President of Lingayen and Municipal Vice Mayor.

Mayor Castañeda was confined for two weeks at the Philippine Heart Center before he succumbed Saturday morning at 11 a.m. due to heart failure at the age of 67.. (PIO/Mark Gerry Naval Oblanca)
