Belen’s battlecry: “Pag-asa at Pagbabago!”

VICE Mayor Belen Fernandez identified “Pag-asa at Pagbabago” (Hope and Reforms) as her battle cry in the coming election in Dagupan.

Fernandez said she will work harder to make Dagupan regain its former and higher economic status after being downgraded to Class B from Class A which was the status of the city during the past administrations of Mayors Cipriano Manaois, Liberato Reyna Sr. and Alipio Fernandez Jr.

She vowed to adopt a hands-on management style similar to what she did with her family’s CSI Group of Companies that has prospered and expanded with branches throughout Pangasinan and adjacent provinces.

Graft and corruption, she said, will have no place in her administration and that she will always be the top exponent of President Benigno Aquino III’s  “Matuwid na Daan“.

During his recent visit to Dagupan, the President endorsed Fernandez and promised to fund more developmental projects in Dagupan if she becomes mayor.

The President said, “Buo ang loob ko na pag si Belen ho ang naupo eh talaga naman pong aarangkada ang Dagupan.”

Fernandez said the abuses committed against small fishermen, tricycle drivers, vendors and other ordinary workingmen and the continuous imposition of higher taxes on traders, and the reported unabated irregularities in the city hall are the reasons she is seeking a higher office.

She noted that instead of enjoying the protection of the city, businessmen, including small sari-sari storeowners, are being constantly threatened and penalized whimsically.

She said she wants to bring back glory days when Dagupan City was the trade and educational center north of Manila noting that Dagupan has now been overtaken by the cities of Urdaneta, and Alaminos as well as San Fernando City in La Union.

Fernandez is confident that proper husbanding of resources and graft-free governance will propel Dagupan back to the top.
