Belen-Michael tandem vows: “We will not steal”
“HINDI kami mag-nanakaw!”
This was the blunt statement of former Councilor Michael Fernandez when asked what the team Belen Fernandez -Michael Fernandez can promise Dagupenos as they vie for the mayoralty and vice mayoralty seats.
In an interview over a local radio station, Fernandez said the Belen-Michael team, which is under the ruling Liberal Party, will value the trust and confidence given them by President Benigno Aquino III as well as that of the people.
“Hindi yong honor (of being elected) kundi responsibility. Kailangang i-reciprocate ang kanyang tiwala sa amin by means of leadership by action,” Fernandez said.
At the same time, Fernandez slammed the so-called flagship projects of the city administration which he described as mere “cosmetic projects”.
“Ang mga ito ay pagpapaganda o pagpapapogi lamang, subalit wala namang direct benefit sa mga mamamayan” he added.
He enumerated some of these projects, including the Tsunami Hill in Barangay Pugaro and the 21-bed capacity Maternal Child Care and Lying-in Clinic that will be situated in the lot occupied by the Juan P. Guadiz Elementary School.
Fernandez said he has visited Barangay Pugaro many times and the people say they were not consulted on the project and worse, they have no idea how they can make use of it.
On the 21-bed clinic that will cost the city some P40 million on the building alone and another P10 million yearly for operation is a “useless investment”.
He pointed out that this large amount of money should rather be used in putting up a medical assistance fund that will subsidize the hospitalization of all indigents in the city.
Fernandez also vowed that the Belen-Michael tandem will restore Dagupan’s number one classification from its present second class status.
The former councilor noted that due to poor management, Dagupan dropped to second class, and the culprit for this, he said, is more expenditure than income apart from the bloated budget.
