LINGAYEN—Lady traffic enforcers, never been seen in the streets of Region 1, underwent a two-day training held at the Capitol Resort here on March 15-16 in preparation for their planned deployment.

The training of the first batch of 15 female LTO employees, conducted by the regional office of the Land Transportation Office (LTO), included lectures on traffic rules and enforcement procedures.

Their first roadside inspection task is scheduled on March 25.

The employment of women as Law Enforcement Officers (LEOs) was conceived to strengthen the enforcement of Republic Act 4136, the Land Transportation and Traffic Code, as studies show that male motorists are less antagonistic when confronted by female enforcers in enforcing road rules.

LTO Region 1 Director Teofilo Guadiz III also described the strategy as “one way of empowering women”, noting that March is women’s month.

The lady enforcers, who are organic staff members of various LTO district offices, will be assigned to the field once a week.

However, they will initially be on road assignment only once a month and will be working alongside the male enforcers of the regular squad.

He added that the women will be provided with the same set of uniform, proper identifications, and responsibilities as their male counterparts.–Johanne R. Macob
