4 local teeners qualify for Jr. NBA national training
SIX young basketball athletes, four of them from Pangasinan and two from Pampanga, emerged as the best players in the first selection camp of the sixth consecutive Jr. NBA program held in the country.
They will be joining the 50-strong National Training Camp pool that will be culled from the four regional camps in four key cities and the Alaska Power Camp.
The four Pangasinenses are Justine Dupo from Calasiao, Ren Bistudio and Alfredo Philippe Camara from Dagupan City, and Herald Jairo Barbiran from Sta. Barbara and Pawan Singh and Mark Adrian Mallari, are both of Angeles City.
The six were among the 169 aspirants from Northern and Central Luzon and Southern Tagalog that joined the Dagupan Regional Selection Camp of the Jr. NBA Philippines 2013 presented by Alaska at the CSI Stadia in Lucao, Dagupan City from March 16 to 17.
The outstanding players were chosen by the Jr. NBA evaluation committee headed by Jr. NBA coach Greg Stolt, Senior Director of Basketball Operations in NBA China, and PBA Legend Jojo Lastimosa of the Alaska Power Camp based on all-around basketball skills and how they exhibited the Jr. NBA’s core S.T.A.R. values of Sportsmanship, Teamwork, (a positive) Attitude and Respect.
Dagupan City Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez, Region 1 director of the Basketball Association of the Philippines (BAP) and host of the two-day Jr. NBA event in Dagupan, congratulated the kids who made it to the Magic 6.
Three more Regional Selection Camps will follow leading up to the National Training Camp set on April 26-28.
The highlight of Jr. NBA Philippines 2013 is the selection of this year’s 10 Jr. NBA Philippines 2013 All-Stars who will have the chance to play against a counterpart Jr. NBA team abroad.

Returning as Jr. NBA Supporting Partners are KFC and Spalding. Official NBA broadcasters are Basketball TV, NBA Premium TV and Studio 23. Jr. NBA is also supported by the Basketball Coaches Association of the Philippines (BCAP).
