ALAMINOS CITY—Only in the Hundred Islands city.

In a rare show of unity, three of the four candidates for mayors, along with their running mates and candidates for councilors belonging to different political parties forged an agreement to support the reelection bid of Governor Amado Espino Jr.

The unity meeting held Friday afternoon at Vistas las Islas Resort here is aimed at making Liberal Party candidate Hernani Braganza who is the outgoing city mayor of Alaminos, lose face in his own backyard.

The three mayoralty bets are Arthur Celeste of the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC), Cesar Manzano of the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) and Teofilo Humilde Jr. of the PDP-Centrist Democratic Party of the Philippines.

The only mayoralty candidate who did not join the meeting was Lean Braganza, the LP candidate for mayor and his teammate, being the son of Mayor and LP gubernatorial candidate Braganza.

The three mayoralty-wannabes were joined in the meeting by their respective vice mayoralty candidates namely Danilo Sison, Emilio Palisoc and Cirilo Radoc.

The candidates for councilor in their respective tickets, all 23 of them, were also present.

All three mayoralty candidates said they will support whoever wins among them but what matters most is for them to unite and campaign for Gov. Espino.

The three also accused Mayor Braganza of lying to President Benigno Aquino III when he visited Alaminos City on March 15, and the mayor painted a bad picture of the province under Espino’s stewardship.

At the same time, they also slammed the younger Braganza for being  “disrespectful to elders”.

Gov. Espino who was present during the meeting thanked Celeste, Manzano and Humilde for uniting behind him.

He tagged Braganza as the worst opponent he ever faced in his entire political career for the all the dirty tactics employed against him.

“Since October 5, he  (Braganza) has been hitting me below the belt, affecting not only me but also family.”  – Eva Visperas
