TESDA prepares hi-school grads for jobs
THE Technical Education Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) are jointly mapping local and international job markets to help find employment opportunities even for those who have no college diploma.
TESDA-Region 1 Director Cenon Querubin, dismissing recent statistics of limited job openings even for college graduates, said there are a lot of opportunities within the country and abroad.
Speaking at the KBP Forum Thursday, Querubin stressed that there are even employment opportunities for those who have not completed high school.
He cited that based on their current mapping, the jobs that are high in demand overseas today are commercial cooking, construction and welding.
With its updated mapping and DOLE statistics, Querubin said TESDA develops its training program according to the demands of the market.
TESDA also provides Youth Profiling for Starting Careers (YP4SC) that assesses applicants assessed trained according to their interests.
Most clients are high school students although those with lesser education are also admitted in the program provided they have knowledge of the basic “3Rs” or “reading, writing and arithmetic”.
TESDA also visits high school campuses to conduct career guidance seminar for graduating students.
Noting the need of many to find immediate employment, Querubin encouraged jobseekers to enroll in short-term courses – those that take one to six months – offered by TESDA and their accredited private institutions instead of pursuing four- to five-year education degrees.
