Tabilas is new Region 1 election director
LAWYER Ederlino Tabilas, previously posted in Region 2, is the new election director for Region 1, replacing Atty. Noli Pippo who is now in Region 10 as part of the reshuffling policy of Commission on Election (Comelec) officials prior to an election.
Tabilas addressed the election supervisor and the municipal and city election officers on Tuesday during his visit to Pangasinan, assuring them of his full support for their endeavors to make the elections credible and fair.
He also briefed them on the new Comelec resolution containing new rules on absentee voting for media practitioners and the removal of the right to reply in election rules.
The reshuffling, which started January as announced by Comelec Chairman Sixto Brillantes, is part of the agency’s thrust to avoid credibility issues among the election officers who will facilitate the midterm polls in May.
Lawyer Marino Salas, provincial election supervisor said that city and municipal election officers will also be reshuffled after the reassigning of regional election directors and provincial supervisors.
“The election officers will also be reshuffled if the concerned election officer has is known to have been in the city or municipality for four years or if he has a relative in the area who is running for a position.,” Salas said.—Dada Martin
