Quarterly earthquake drill held in Pangasinan
LINGAYEN—An earthquake drill was held at the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (DRRMC) office here on February 6, simultaneous with the quarterly exercise conducted nationwide to keep disaster-response capabilities in check.
The drill that included sounding of alarm, evacuation to safer areas, search and rescue operation, medical response phase, and relief operations, tests the preparedness of selected government and non-government offices to respond to disasters such as a strong earthquake and assesses the evacuation and response plan.
The regional DRRMC also held its 2nd Regional Planning Meeting after the drill to tackle disaster-preparedness issues.
At the same time, Region I DRRMC Director Melchito Castro said he met with officials of the National Power Corporation (NAPOCOR) and San Roque Power Corporation last Feb. 4 to discuss other disaster-preparedness plans.
The Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill, held quarterly since 2006, is part of the continuing implementation of the National DRRMC’s Four Point Plan of Action on Disaster Preparedness, specifically on public information, education, communication, and preparedness/disaster response.– Johanne R.
