THE Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) regional office’s collection in 2012 reached P973 million in 2012, 25 percent higher than the previous year and exceeding the target for the period.

Dr. Rodolfo del Rosario Jr., regional director officer-in-charge, said the total amount distributed by PhilHealth Region 1 in terms of benefits, ranging at about P2.7 billion, also increased by 60 percent compared to 2011.

“It is like we spend P3 for each member,” Del Rosario explained, noting that PhilHealth R1 currently has 5.3 million members but only 57% of enrollees availed of their PhilHealth benefits.

Del Rosario said the membership represents only 70 percent of the total supposed enrollees in the region.

“We still have a lot to do to reach our vision that no Filipino should be left behind in terms of health services specially with the health insurance”, he added.

This year PhilHealth has allocated P4.1 billion for the benefits of its members.

“The members will be assured that as the collection increases, the benefits also increases,” Del Rosario said.–Hilda Martin Austria
