A GROUP of overseas Filipino workers from the United States recently sponsored medical and dental missions around the province.

Assisted by the Provincial Health Office (PHO) and local government units, the Pangasinan Association of USA Inc., composed of ten members headed by Nida Cortez, a retired teacher originally from Mangaldan town, provided all the medicines for the mission launched February 4 in Mangaldan, Malasiqui, Bautista and Dagupan City.

The PHO led by Dr. Anna Theresa De Guzman, provincial health officer, provided the medical staff for the missions.

“We did not bring with us doctors because we believe that the doctors here in Pangasinan are as competent as the doctors in the US,” Cortez stated.

De Guzman said they welcome the help of OFWs and balikbayans who are usually in the country during the first quarter of the year to take part in fiestas or to take relief from the winter season in their base countries.

The mission, according to Cortez, was in response to the challenge of Governor Amado Espino Jr. for their group to undertake projects that could help Pangasinenses.

“We met the governor during his visit in the US and we promised him that we would do medical and dental mission for the province,” Cortez said.

Aside from the medical service, the group also distributed school supplies to several day care centers and relief goods in Binalonan, Pozorrubio and Aguilar.– Hilda Martin Austria
