No DepEd ok yet on transfer of Guadiz school students
CONTRARY to the recent announcement of the city government of Dagupan, it cannot transfer just yet the 300 pupils of the Juan P. Guadiz Elementary School to a 15-room school it built inside the compound of the City Engineer’s Office as the Department of Education (DepEd) has not given its approval.
A team form the DepEd regional office already inspected the structure but City Schools Supt. Gloria Torres said the request of the city government for the transfer is still due for assessment by the central office.
The result of the team’s inspection will be included in the final recommendation, which they intend to submit to the central office on February 4.
“They were satisfied so far because the 15 classrooms passed the standards of DepEd, it also has proper ventilation given the ceiling fans installed in each classrooms,” said Edilberto Abalos, education program supervisor of the city schools division.
City Administrator Vladimir Mata was earlier quoted as saying that the transfer would be implemented by the second week of February.
“No evacuation or transfer should be done from Guadiz Elementary School without a directive from the central office,” said Torres, adding that the issuance of the directive has “indefinite timeframe”.
The Guadiz Elementary School is being eyed by the city administration under Mayor Benjamin Lim for demolition to give way to a proposed maternity hospital to be operated by the city.
Abalos also said that even if the central office approves the city’s request, both the city schools division and regional office will still ask that the relocation be done after the end of the current school year in April to avoid disruption of classes.
He noted that at this stage, the city government still has a lot more things to do to ensure the comfort of pupils and teachers transferring to the new building.
These include the transfer of the lot title from the city to the DepEd, backfilling and elevation of the ground area to avoid flooding, construction of a stage, construction of an administration building and the building of a library hub, all of which are part of phase three of the project, which again will all be funded by the city government.
