A POLICE officer found dead at the Bonuan Tondaligan Beach in Dagupan last Sunday is suspected to have committed suicide.

The victim, PO2 Ariel Frianiza, 32, a resident of Malabago, Mangaldan where he is also serving as a police officer, was found with a gunshot wound on the head. He was reportedly seen drinking by himself earlier in a beach cottage and appeared to be crying.

Police Supt. Christopher Abrahano, officer-in-charge of the Dagupan police, said the policemen on duty in the community precinct who responded to the report of the body on the coast immediately brought Frianiza to a nearby hospital but he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Frianeza’s wife told the police that they had an argument before her husband left their house Saturday.

Initial investigation of the authorities revealed that Frianeza’s body was found with his gloc 9mm service firearm, which investigators suspect was used to take his own life.

“Our presumption is that he might have committed suicide but the investigation Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) is still on- going,” Abrahano said.

The service firearm and the empty shell recovered from the vicinity have been submitted for ballistic examination.–Hilda Martin Austria
