THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) provincial office is crossing its fingers that Pangasinan will be chosen as one of the venues for the planned next round of mock elections in preparation for the May 2013-midterm poll.

Provincial Elections Supervisor Marino Salas, speaking during the Interfaith Rally at the Dagupan City Plaza that followed the Unity Walk of candidates of Dagupan last Friday, announced that Comelec Chairman Sixto Brilliantes is calling for another mock election after the first mock elections held last week drew criticisms.

But Salas added that if Pangasinan will not be chosen, he intends to ask the Comelec to send one Precinct Count Optical Scan (PCOS) machine that will be used for a road show around the province.

The road show aims to educate voters, especially first timers, on how the PCOs machine works.

Noting the negative reactions to the first mock election, Salas said the Comelec is open to criticisms and is ready to identify problems and solutions.

Salas also reminded the police and members of the Department of Education, who are all deputies of the Comelec, to “leave politics to politicians.”

He noted too that the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) and other deputies of the Comelec are now actively conducting voters education campaign even as he lauded the Dagupan Police for initiating the Unity Walk and Interfaith Rally in line with the campaign for Secured and Fair Elections (SAFE) 2013.
