Comelec officer’s dad gunned down

BALUNGAO—The police have yet to establish the motive for the killing last January 28 of the father of the election officer of Umingan town.

The victim, who was gunned down along Cabulalaan St. in Barangay San Aurelio 1st here, was identified as Dominador Fernandez, 60, married, farmer, and father of Umingan Election Officer Jinky Fernandez Tabag.

Fernandez, together with his friends Tony Mortos, resident of Barangay Acop, Rosales and Otchiong Padilla, resident of Barangay San Aurelio 1st, were walking from the Balungao Cockpit Arena when the crime took place.

Initial police investigation showed the victim was shot dead by two unidentified male suspects riding in tandem on an unlicensed red motorcycle.

The suspects arrived on a motorcycle, stopped without turning off their engine, and one of them fired at the victim.

Responding police elements of Balungao recovered one fired cartridge of caliber 45 at the crime scene. —Eva Visperas
