THE Dagupan government, led by Mayor Benjamin Lim, opened last week the Dagupan Wellness Center, the first and perhaps only spa in the country owned by a local government.

Lim, who led the inauguration of the shop, said the wellness center is “in preparation for the expected arrival of tourists with the fruition of the infrastructural boom the national government has seeded in Northern Luzon such as the Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway and the upping of Clark International Airport’s passenger capacity.”

“By offering the tourists the distinctly ‘Dagupan’s Best’ massage, they will have something to look forward to coming to the city – a hospitality trademark that brings alternative livelihood to the Dagupeño‫ ‬and fosters the city’s bid as an emerging convention center up north,” the mayor said.

The mayor is also optimistic that the current eight-room wellness center would soon be expanded.

TRAINING CENTER

The center’s resident trainer, masseur Moises Biazon, announced that the spa offers a free three-month training course inclusive of a 200-hour paid internship to provide alternative livelihood to the city’s residents.

Biazon said 13 trainees will soon complete the training and another batch of 14 has already started.

The wellness center, open daily from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., offers various massage treatments.

Dawel River Cruise patrons can also avail of a 15 or 30-minute chair massage while on the river cruise. (with report from CIO)
