Business sector assured minimal inconvenience

THE elevation of A.B. Fernandez Avenue in Dagupan is set to start this month and the Department of Public Works and Highways has assured business owners in the area of minimal inconvenience in their commercial operations.
The assurance was made during the consultation meeting with the business sector held January 27 by Eng. Rodolfo Dion, chief of the DPWH Second Engineering Office, hosted by Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez.
Dion explained that during the construction period, work will be undertaken on only one side of the road at a time, leaving the other half open for vehicular traffic.
The first phase of the project will be done from February to April while the second phase will begin starting May 2, after the Bangus Festival.
Fernandez credited 4th District Rep. Gina de Venecia for making the DPWH prioritize the project, which will ease the perennial flooding in the area caused by the rise of tidal water from the Pantal River, especially during rainy days.
De Venecia, in a letter to DPWH, explained that elevating the road is “the only way to save A,B. Fernandez Avenue and the whole central business district of Dagupan”.
“Sa kagustuhan nating maging mataas ang mga kalsada at mapalaki ang mga kanal, sumulat tayo kay Secretary Rogelio Singson para mapagawa ang proyekto,” De Venecia said.
The DPWH has allocated P49-million for the improvement and upgrading of A.B. Fernandez Avenue, starting from the junction of Burgos Street to the junction of M.H. Del Pilar and Arellano Streets, except on both approaches of the Quintos Bridge.
The 870-meter long portion of the road will be elevated to 35 to 40 centimeters.
OTHER ROAD PROJECTS
De Venecia earlier initiated the elevation of seven main roads in the city and the provision of their respective drainage systems, which, she said, finally eased floods in these areas.
Already completed is the road and drainage system in Bonuan Gueset and Mayombo District while the roads and drainage system along Jose de Venecia Hi-way, Tapuac and Lucao Districts are now in the finishing stage of construction.
