LINGAYEN–Pangasinan added another feather to its cap by bagging the prestigious TOFARM 2012 Award for its “Ilog Ko, Bilayen Tan Aro Ko” program.

TOFARM, or the Search and Award for the Ten Outstanding Farmers of the Philippines, is given out by the Junior Chamber Philippines, Inc. (JCP) and Universal Harvester Inc.

Pangasinan bagged the honor, with a cash prize of P100,000 and a plaque, besting other provinces in the local government unit category.

Eduardo T. Aucena of Manaoag also ranked second nationwide in the Young Farmer Category, earning him a cash prize of P25,000 and a plaque of appreciation.

Dalisay Moya, officer-in-charge Provincial Agriculturist, said the province’s award is another affirmation of how agriculture ranks among the priority programs of Gov. Amado Espino Jr.

Espino initiated the project to help save Pangasinan rivers and waterways by clearing and cleaning them to allow marine life to thrive again.

Moya said the entry focused on the general planning, execution, monitoring and evaluation; policy reforms; partnership support; care for the environment; capability building; project impacts and benefits; effective coverage; sustainability; and, value to industry sector.

The search and awards program launched last July was revived by JCI Philippines and UHI to refocus attention on the importance and viability of agriculture as an industry and vocation.
