Police initiates “Unity Walk”
FOR PEACEFUL ELECTIONS
A “Unity Walk” and prayer rally will be held at the City Plaza in Dagupan City on February 8 to promote the Secure and Fair Elections (SAFE) 2013 campaign of the Philippines National Police.
Superintendent Christopher Abrahano, city police chief, said they are expecting the participation of officials of the Commission on Elections (Comelec), candidates, students and other stakeholders.
Abrahano said this is part of the PNP’s mission to conduct activities focusing on the humane and spiritual side of the electorate, based on a memorandum from Chief Superintendent Ricardo Marquez, PNP Region 1 director.
“It is a two-pronged approach because aside from focused police operations like the conduct of checkpoints, search warrants, control of loose firearms, accounting of wanted persons, among others, this will also invoke Divine intervention for the elections,” Abrahano said.
The activity will start at 6:30 a.m. and the walk will cover a 2.8-kilometer stretch from Burgos St., on to Perez Blvd, M.H. del Pilar and A.B. Fernandez Ave.
It will end again at the plaza where an interfaith prayer rally will be held followed by the signing of voters’ pledge and unity pledge by all stakeholders.—Eva Visperas
