LOS ANGELES-Pangasinenses based in the United States have been called on to tap the expertise and resources of businesses from the various towns and cities of Pangasinan and link them with US importers who have signified interest to buy Philippine-made products.

In pursuit of this initiative, a Trade and Business Initiative seminar was held January 26 at the Long Beach Marriot Hotel organized by Eddie C. Ferrer, president of the Pangasinan Brotherhood Association (PBA)– USA, in cooperation with the Philippine Consulate General office of Los Angeles and the Filipino-American Chamber of Commerce of Southeast Corridor headed by Felix B Lopez.

Ferrer said the PBA-USA will serve as a conduit between potential US buyers of Philippine goods and the local manufacturers of the province.

It will also provide guidelines for the linkages, which will be tied with the “One Town, One Product” initiative of the Philippine government.

“With our knowledge and experience in the industry, we can help our province mates augment their income or branch out to other income-generating activities thereby giving them a chance and opportunity to improve their quality of life,” Ferrer said.

In an earlier meeting with the conveners at the consular office, Consul-General Hellen Barber-de Vega, a Pangasinan daughter-in-law, took note of the Port of Sual as a potential trans-shipment and the future Export Processing Zone for their strategic location.

While in the US, San Carlos City Mayor Julier Resuello, who was invited during one of the convener’s committee meetings, pledged his full support to the initiative and gave assurance to “sell” the project to his fellow town and city mayors.

Resullo also said he will seek an audience with Governor Amado Espino, Jr. to brief him about the PBA-USA programs.

ANNIVERSARY

In another event, the Dagupan City Club of Southern California celebrated its 63rd anniversary recently with a grand ball at the Double Tree Hotel in Norwalk.

Highlights of the occasion are the induction of the new set officers and the crowning of Charisse Lim Maravilla as Miss DCCSC.

Alex Lomibao took over the group’s presidency from Pressy Dimapilis.
