Oplan Katok targets 446 houses
MANAOAG—This town may be home to the popular Catholic pilgrimage site Our Lady of Manaoag, but the gun culture is prevalent among residents.
Chief Inspector Noel Espinoza, the town police chief, said there are at least 446 targets here for “Oplan Katok” where the police visit houses that, based on records of the Provincial Police Office, have gun owners who have failed to renew their licenses or have no license at all.
Espinoza said since December last year, they have gone to 301 houses and some of the gun holders obligingly went to Camp Crame for the renewal of their gun license.
Once their license is renewed, gun owners sign a log book in the local police station to show they had complied with the requirements.
Those who fail to comply get re-visited by the police.
Meanwhile, some gun holders on record have been found to have transferred residence and guns with expired licenses for two years or more are subject to a search warrant, Espinoza added.—Eva Visperas
