No extension for free helmet ICC sticker tagging
THE Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) provincial office based in Dagupan announced there will be no more extension on the distribution of free import commodity clearance (ICC) stickers for helmets.
DTI provincial director Peter Mangabat advised riders to purchase new helmets manufactured on 2010 to comply with the helmet law which is now being strictly implemented by the Land Transportation Office (LTO).
“Helmets that were manufactured on 2010 up to present already have ICC stickers alongside the passage of the helmet act on that year. But motorcyclists should be very careful as to brand of the helmet, it should be one of the brands recommended by DTI”, Mangabat said.
Only about 17,000 helmets were tagged by DTI out of the total 70,000 to 80, 000 registered motorcyclists in the province.
DTI was aiming to give free stickers last year to about 30,000 motorcyclists.
Mangabat said that the below-target number could be attributed to riders having already purchased tagged helmets or riders simply did not have time to go to their office during the distribution period.
The DTI continues to monitor retailers of helmets for compliance to the requirements under the law.–Hilda M. Austria
