Good Housekeeping reward goes to Dasol road project
LINGAYEN—The municipality of Dasol in the western part of the province stands to benefit from the P7 million-fund reward that Pangasinan won for its Seal of Good Housekeeping Award.
The money will be spent for the construction of the Bobonot-Tambobong road line to provide better access to the surrounding communities and as a tourism enhancement project.
The road – 23.3 kilometers in total of which 1.12 kms. – will lead to the white beaches in Tambobong and Osmeña in Dasol as well as in Cabongaoan in the neighboring town of Burgos.
The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) approved during its regular session on January 7 Resolution No. 1638-2013 authorizing Governor Amado Espino Jr. to enter into a memorandum of agreement with the Department of the Interior and Local Government for the Implementation of the Seal of Good Housekeeping (SGH)- Performance Challenge Fund (PCF) Projects.
Prior to its adoption, however, several SP members sought clarifications about the process adopted for choosing a project.
Board Members Mojamito Libunao and Alfonso Bince asked what guidelines were used for the selection even as they suggested that appropriate SP committees be consulted in the future before deciding on a priority project.
Provincial Planning and Development Officer Benita Pizzaro explained that her office was given only one day by DILG to submit its recommendation for a local economic development project that enhances tourism facilities.
The choice of Bobonot-Tambobong Road in Dasol, she said, was based on its inclusion in the 2013 Annual Investment Plan being an important access point for tourism.
She added that Dasol has been eyed as one of the tourism areas in the province that needs to be developed given its natural tourism potentials.
Both SP members Amadeo Espino and Teofilo Humilde Jr. supported Pizarro saying the road project has long been neglected and the town’s potential as a primary tourist destination that can only be realized with the improvement of the road.–Johanne R. Macob
