Folks under medication advised to keep healthy lifestyle
EAT nourishing food, keep a healthy lifestyle and exercise.
This is the advice issued of the provincial health office (PHO), particularly to people with lingering illnesses and are taking regular medication.
“Most people with existing illnesses do not heed doctors’ advice, thinking that their medication would offset the symptoms of their diseases,” said Christina Alcantara, health education program officer of the PHO.
“Medication only takes effect if it is coupled with healthy diet, exercise, and avoidance of prohibited foods,” she added during the Pantongtongan Tayo radio program of the Philippine Information Agency on Tuesday.
She stressed that medication is useless if prohibited foods and excessive intake of alcohol and cigarettes are not avoided.
People with diabetes and hypertension, she pointed out, should exercise at least 30 minutes a day.
The PHO reported that high blood pressure and asthma attacks increased over the Christmas holidays due to the increase in consumption of fatty foods and inhalation of firecracker smoke. (PIA-Pangasinan/ARF)
