Firecracker-related blazes in Urdaneta City
URDANETA CITY—A grass fire at around 5:30 in the afternoon of December 31 in Barangay Nancayasan along McArthur Highway here alarmed residents with its huge flame and smoke.
It was not determined whether the blaze was set off by a firecracker but Fire Officer 1 Franklin Corpuz, a fire arson investigator in the city, said they responded to three other cases which were suspected to have been caused by firecrackers lit up in celebration of the New Year.
At 12:40 a.m. of January 1, a stockpile of wood in an unfinished extension of a house owned by Dolores Galsim in Lachica Street started burning due to an indiscriminately thrown firecracker.
A garbage pile in Aruego Street at the Poblacion area was later reported on fire.
At around 5:35 a.m., an unoccupied shelter owned by Rolando Lantaro was gutted by fire, also believed to have been caused by firecracker.—Eva Visperas
