Binmaley all set for 3rd Sigay Festival

BINMALEY—This town, aiming to lay claim as the Fishbowl of Pangasinan and the Seafood Capital of Northern Luzon, is celebrating its 3rd Sigay Festival slated from January 18 to February 3.

The term sigay is a Pangasinan word that means “to harvest from the sea” and the festival is Binmaley’s way of celebrating its rich aquaculture industry, the main source of livelihood for residents here.

Activities for the festivity will kick off with the launching of the Trade Fair near the town hall at 9 a.m. on January 18.

The Food Strip located close to the Children’s Park will also be opened in the afternoon of January 18.

A two-day medical and surgical mission will be held on January 23 to 24 at the Binmaley Infirmary while the nine-day novena in honor of the Our Lady of Purification, the town’s patroness, will also start at 4 p.m. on the 23rd.

The crowd-drawer “Kambogan ed Kapokokan” will be held on the 25th in a fishpond at the back of Bangsal Restaurant in barangay Nansangaan.

Other scheduled activities include the “Gabi ng Papuri at Pasasalamat”, the presentation of 16 lovely ladies from various barangays and the Miss Binmaley beauty pageant at the town plaza; Seafood Cook Fest and Fluvial Parade.

Thee senior citizens and veterans, balikbayans, sangguniang kabataan and educators, employees, non-governmental organizations and business sectors will have their evening dance affairs at the town plaza.

On the 31st, devotees of the Our Lady of Purification will hold a religious procession while the commemorative program for the 423rd founding anniversary of Binmaley and the Drum and Lyre Exhibition are scheduled on February 1

February 2 will be highlighted by a thanksgiving mass at the Our Lady of the Purification Church at 8 a.m. A civic parade and street-dancing contest is scheduled in the afternoon.

The last day, February 3 the People’s Night will stage “Kantahan ng Bayan.” Expected guests for this evening are the rock band “Alamid,” artist Heart Evangelista and Senator Chiz Escudero. (PIA-Pangasinan/AMM)
