A letter from Sen. Alan S. Cayetano
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Pangasinan –
As I greet you a happy and prosperous new year, I cannot but feel sad about the reported increase in the number of firecracker victims at the height of your v towns’ celebrations.
Every year, we find ourselves angry, frustrated and disappointed that we continue to see children losing fingers, a limb and even eyesight all because we have failed to exert all efforts to protect them. Fortunately, you have not suffered a single fatality from a stray bullet this year.
I believe it is time for your local government units to pass ordinances that will ban the manufacture and distribution of the dangerous firecrackers whose numbers keep increasing every year. In Davao City, a total ban on firecrackers continues to be in effect and the only children brought to the hospital are those who suffer from the cold night or indigestion.
At the very least, the safe conduct of the annual Pogo Grande January 1 fireworks should be emulated by all.
Happy New po sa inyong lahat!
Sincerely,
Alan
