“NO one’s too old to have fun.”

And fun it was, according to Ana Guadalupe Visperas, for her grandfather Mauro Visperas of Binmaley town who celebrated his 83rd birthday with a party in a branch of fastfood chain Jollibee, a popular venue for kiddie birthday celebrations.

“Papang Mauro made history being the oldest to celebrate a unique birthday party in Jollibee”, according to Pee Jay Magpantay, group marketing coordinator of Jollibee, after his children and grandchildren posted photos of the event on social networking website facebook.

More than 100 guests came to the party last January 13, which was also a celebration of Papang Mauro’s “second life” after he recovered from a bout of serious ailment last year which put him in hospital for two weeks and needed 19 bags of blood for transfusion.

This retired public school teacher first attended a Jollibee party in December last year for the 3rd birthday of his great grandson Jian Moulic.

But at that time, he was still too weak to climb the stairs to the restaurant’s second floor where the activities where being held and so he just stayed at the ground floor to enjoy the food.

When The PUNCH contributor Eva Visperas, one of Mauro’s daughters, asked her father what he wanted to do for his birthday this year, he readily replied: a Jollibee party.

The family then made arrangements and more than 100 guests joined the celebration, mostly children accompanied by their parents and grandparents.

As the norm, parlor games were held and enjoyed by the children as well as the adults.

But the surprise appearance of mascots Jollibee and Twirlie, dancing to the Gangnam style beat which has become viral on the internet, brought the house down.

As everyone danced along, Papang Mauro was all smiles and clapped along.

Nowadays, Papang Mauro continues to savor the memory of his party, waking up with a smile and greeting everyone a “Happy Birthday”.

Proof that it was, indeed, a very happy one for him.–Eva Visperas
