SRPC bolsters education program
SAN MANUEL–The San Roque Power Corporation (SRPC), which has been giving focus to education as part of its corporate social responsibility thrust, continues to bolster its program through infrastructure building and book distribution.
Last December 12, more than 9,000 workbooks on Reading, Math and Science, were distributed to Grades 1 to 3 students in various schools in Grades one and two in Grades one, two and three from various schools in areas that host the San Roque Multipurpose project, the biggest component of which is the power generating-dam.
Then on December 14, SRPC led the inauguration of classrooms and other projects, including a Day Care Center in Barangay Camanggaan, Laklak creek retaining wall also in Barangay Camangaan, repair of five-classroom buildings in Barangay Bobon, and one classroom building each for barangay Bomboaya and Don Cristobal.
Engr. Tom Valdez, SRPC vice president for corporate affairs, said the company has partnered with Synergeia Foundation, with support from the Department of Education, to strengthen education not just to the children, but to parents and teachers as well in the towns of San Manuel and San Nicolas in Pangasinan and Itogon in Benguet.
“If we give the basic foundation of education, there will not be a single child here who cannot read,” he said.
Valdez said the Teachers’ Training program, which started three years ago, was organized to enable the teachers to understand and develop strategies on how their students can enjoy reading, pronounce words and communicate and at the same time recognize numbers and count properly.
SRPC has also been sponsoring the salaries of at least 20 teachers every year since 2003.
Parent participation, on the other hand, is a means of enhancing the children’s education process.
“When parents are involved in their children’s education, both children and parents are likely to benefit,” Valdez said.
“We promised the communities that when SRPC leaves in year 2028, we will leave them with a good and productive life,” he added. (PIA-Pangasinan/VHS)
