Province pays tribute to ex-Gov. Primicias

LINGAYEN—The province, spearheaded by the provincial government, held a memorial service in honor of the late former Governor Cipriano B. Primicias Jr. who was described as “one of the illustrious and recognized political leaders of the Province of Pangasinan”.

The memorial, held at the provincial Capitol December 10, included a public viewing, a mass, and a necrological rite.

Governor Amado Espino Jr. and Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) Member Alfonso Bince Jr., the oldest serving board member, recalled some of their encounters with Primicias in their eulogies.

The SP also passed Provincial Resolution No. 1589-2012 recognizing Primicias’ contributions, citing him as “a brilliant practicing lawyer who passed the Philippines Bar in 1956, an articulate newspaper columnist and a prolific government technical assistant.”

Some of his notable accomplishments included the “construction of concrete bridges for provincial roads by raising them above flood level, and he had also opened the development of the now famous Hundred Islands Park.”

Ma. Elena Fe Van Tooren, in behalf of the Primicias family, thanked the provincial government for the tribute.

Primicias served as governor from 1967-1971 was a congressional representative of the 3rd District from 1957-1967.

Primicias passed away last December 3, 2012 at the age of 81.– Johanne R. Macob
