Prov. gov’t cancels Christmas parties to help Pablo victims
LINGAYEN – -The Pangasinan provincial government is extending the spirit of giving and volunteerism to the thousands of families affected by the recent devastation of Super Typhoon Pablo by cancelling the traditional Christmas Dinner and Fellowship of local government unit officials and the Employees’ Christmas Party slated on December 17 and 20, respectively.
In a memorandum issued by Governor Amado T. Espino, Jr. to all city and municipal officials, he said the funds earmarked for the conduct of the two events will be donated to the victims of the super typhoon.
Instead of the annual festivity that the province holds, the governor said the budgets for the celebrations would be better spent to provide assistance to the thousands of families in Davao Oriental, Compostela Valley and other neighboring provinces badly devastated.
“Most of them lost everything. They have nowhere to go. They don’t know how to start all over again. Many are mourning for their loved ones who died, or hoping against hope to find those that have remained lost and buried under the rubble,” the governor noted.
Meanwhile, Provincial Administrator Rafael F. Baraan said the governor is also encouraging the LGU officials to share some of their funds and help the typhoon victims.
Baraan added that the spirit of Christmas is about giving and sharing so the donation is very much in keeping with Christ’s teaching. (PIO/ Ruby R. Bernardino)
