P500,000 livelihood assistance given to AUTO-Pro
MANAY GINA REPORTS
FOURTH District Rep. Gina De Venecia recently handed a P500,000 check to finance the livelihood projects of the Alliance of United Transport Organization-Province-wide (AUTO-Pro).
According to Benny Aquino, AUTO-Pro president, the fund will be used for income-generating projects that will benefit them and their families.
AUTO-Pro is the fourth people’s organization that has benefited from De Venecia’s livelihood assistance fund of P500,000 each.
The three others are the Dagupan Bangus Vendors Association, the Dagupan Tricycle Drivers and Operators Association and the Ulopan na Managsigay ed Dagupan headed by Ronnie Cayabyab whose members lost their means of livelihood as a result of a controversial project of the city government.
Two other groups received the same amount from Manay Gina, the Association of Meat Processors in Mangaldan and the San Fabian Women’s Federation.
“Wala po akong hinihintay na kapalit na tulong na ito, kundi ang hiling na sana’y ingatan nyo ang pondong ito, upang mas marami pa nating kasamahan ang makinabang,” De Venecia said.
She told the people that the livelihood assistance is a “reminder” that she “has not forgotten your needs and is fully aware of your great contributions to improve our society”.
While in Dagupan, De Venecia also announced a bill she filed in Congress seeking the establishment of a modern Fish Port in Dagupan to boost the local fishing industry.
She said the proposed fish port will be in support of the Seafood Processing Plant built through the initiative of former Speaker Jose de Venecia, whose privatization has been consistently opposed by the congresswoman.
She noted that although Dagupan has a big fish market, it has no fish port from where fishing boats from western Pangasinan and the Ilocos can dock to unload their catch.
With the fish port, she said, more opportunities will be opened to Dagupan when it becomes Northern Luzon’s capital in fish trading.
At the same time, De Venecia announced that her pet bill seeking the modernization and expansion of the Region 1 Medical Center from 300 to 600-bed capacity is now nearing reality.
She said this is a better alternative than the plan of the Dagupan City government to build a 24-bed lying in clinic for P68 million for construction cost alone since the city need not spend a single centavo anymore as its people will enjoy greater priority in the expanded R1MC.
Meanwhile, the modernization of R1MC through the initiative of the Department of Health (DOH) will start January next year, said Dr. Roland Mejia, R1MC director.
