Mayor Romero dies, 72

MANGALDAN Mayor Herminio Aquino Romero died of heart attack, Sunday, December 23. He was 72.

Romero a three-term executive of one of Pangasinan’s progressive towns was stricken after delivering a speech in nearby town San Fabian.

He was rushed immediately to nearby hospital in Bonuan Gueset, Dagupan City but declared dead on arrival.

At the time of his death, Romero was a declared candidate for provincial board. He will reportedly be replaced by his eldest son Christopher.

During his term in office, Romero made the town as one of the cleanest in the province. The town’s slaughterhouse was one of Luzon’s biggest and tidiest.

Romero was also a sports conscious town executive and was a big supporter of Pangasinan’s cycling teams.

The mayor is survived by his wife Gloria and his two sons Christopher and Herminio, Jr. Burial will be on January 3, 2013. Vice Mayor Bernardo Abalos already took his oath of office as the new mayor of Mangaldan a day after Romero’s demise with number one councilor Teresita “Baby”Abalos taking the vice mayor post.
