Mangatarem-Tarlac hanging bridge inaugurated
MANGATAREM—A steel hanging bridge that connects Barangay Cacaoiten here with Barangay Bamban in San Clemente, Tarlac was inaugurated December 20 led by Pangasinan’s 2nd District Rep. Leopoldo N. Bataoil who initiated the project.
The 65-meter bridge is particularly beneficial to students in the border barangay of Cacaoiten as the nearest high school to the community is located in Barangay Bamban.
Cacaoiten Chairman Nicanor Patricio thanked Bataoil in behalf of the people for responding to their request to construct the hanging bridge.
The old wooden bridge in the area, recently renovated, was destroyed in October 2011 following heavy rains brought about by typhoon Quiel.
Bataoil said the new steel bridge should be more durable and be able to stand similar natural calamities.
After the blessing and ribbon-cutting ceremony, Bataoil led the Cacaoiten barangay officials in a ceremonial walk through the bridge and officials of Barangay Bamban led by Chairman Pachico Ragus met them halfway.
Other officials who attended the launch were Mangatarem councilors Ramil Ventanilla and Donato Flores, former Lingayen Councilor Jose Ferrer, and former town Commission on Elections Supervisor Julian Apostol.–Johanne R. Macob
