MANAY GINA REPORTS

THE Abong na Alumni of the Dagupan City National High School (DCNHS), formerly Dagupan City High School, will soon be finally completed with the P5 million donation of 4th District Rep. Manay Gina de Venecia.

The congresswoman handed the donation when she was guest of honor during the recent alumni homecoming of the DCNHS.

Noting that the Abong na Alumni has not been finished nine years after it was started, De Venecia offered to help.

Kaya para malubos ang bawat homecoming nyo, sinuporthan ko nang todo — para matapos na, after nine years — ang inyong project na Abong na Alumni,” she said.

She hailed former Daguan City Councilor Ope Reyna, chairman of the board of University of Luzon, as he did not stop “until your Abong na Alumni is finally completed”.

She told the alumni that their continuing sacrifices to their alma mater reminds her of the love poured to Dagupan by her husband, former five-time Speaker Jose de Venecia.

Ibinuhos nya dito ang maraming biyaya, kabilang na ang paglikha ng batas para maibangon ang Dagupan, matapos itong wasakin ng malagim na lindol noong 1990,” she said.

She recalled that when her husband was a congressman, he sponsored Republic Act 6960, which served as the master plan for sourcing funds from abroad to ensure the fast rehabilitation of Dagupan from the rubble of the 1990 earthquake.

With its rehabilitation, Dagupan was made better than before with the construction of massive infrastructure projects several times sturdier and more modern than those existing before.

Bilang kanyang maybahay, saksi ako sa lahat ng kanyang pagsisikap para sa inyo. Kaya nang ako’y naging kongresista, ipinagpatuloy ko ang kanyang plano para sa Dagupan,” De Venecia said.

For the past two years, she has given financial assistance of P500,000 each to various cooperatives of the poor people of Dagupan to enable them to put up their respective income-generating projects.

These include the Dagupan Bangus Vendors Association, Tricycle Drivers Association, Ulopan na Sumisigay ed Dagupan and the Alliance of United Transport Organization – Province-wide.

She said in order to strengthen the fish industry in Dagupan, she filed a bill in Congress seeking the establishment of a modern fishport and also funded the construction of a levee to save the perimeter of the Seafood Processing Plant form further erosion.

In the area of health, her five mobile hospitals continue to give free medical and dental missions.

Maliban dito, nagsasagawa ako ng regular na misting operation laban sa dengue; at kada taon, namimigay din ako ng libreng reading glasses sa mga senior citizens,” she said.

At the same time, her pet bill seeking the expansion of the Region One Medical Center, from 300 to 600 bed capacity is now about to be approved in the Senate after it was endorsed in the House.

This will ensure that Dagupenos and Pangasinenses will have a modern government hospital without the need of the city government to spend.

At the same time, she announced that the Region One Drug Rehabilitation Center in Bonuan Boquig is now nearing completion, including the new Mental Health Building on Arellano Street.

She is also pushing for social justice as evidenced by the establishment of two bahay kalingas which are helping abused women, and street children who are also victims of illegal drugs.

These are The Haven for Women that is helping battered women and other victims of abuses, including rape.
