RETURN BOUT IN 4TH DISTRICT

RE-ELECTIONIST Gina de Venecia is again facing off with Celia Lim in the congressional race in the 4th District in the May 2013 elections.

Lim, wife of Dagupan Mayor Benjamin Lim, filed her certificate of candidacy last Friday as a substitute for Mario Lim who withdrew his candidacy citing health reasons.

Lim said the decision for her to run was not made last minute and agreed upon by the Nacionalista Party and “we have to see the big picture and not only myself”.

She said she was not able to make a decision last October during the period of filing of candidacies because “politics is very unpredictable so you better keep your mouth shut, think and discern then decide”.

De Venecia, wife of former 4th District Rep. and House Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr. and running under the Nationalist People’s Coalition, defeated Lim in the 2010 election where both ran for office for the first time.

Lim expressed confidence that she has better chances next year as the voters already know her from the previous election.

Meanwhile in Dagupan City, the Lim couple’s son, Brian, currently serving as Dagupan councilor, is finally running for vice mayor in tandem with his father Mayor Benjamin Lim who is seeking re-election.

Brian also filed his candidacy Friday as substitute for Alex Siapno.

Mayor Lim stressed their husband-wife-son slate for the 2013 elections is not a political dynasty in the making.

“At the end of the day, we only want to see one thing here. Do the people now have a choice or not? It’s really up to the people to make a decision. If they think it (Lim-Lim-Lim tandem) is rejectable (sic), then they will not vote for us,” he said.

“If they think we are qualified in the name of service that we have to be elected, di masama siguro yan,” he said.

Meanwhile, four councilors who originally filed their certificates of candidacy under the Lim ticket have also withdrawn from the race with only one substitution.

They are Orly Navarro Jr, Shinika Gapuz, Lilia Yasar and Ruby Sta. Maria.

It’s Lokin again vs. Bataoil in 2nd District

SECOND District Rep. Leopoldo Bataoil, who is running for a second term, will again be up against his opponent in 2010, former CIBAC partylist Rep. Kim Lokin.

Lokin filed her candidacy Friday as substitute for her husband, lawyer Luis Lokin who filed his candidacy last October and withdrew.

Lokin, who is under the Liberal Party, said it was a party decision for her to run again following positive survey results.

In 2010, Lokin got the second most number of votes in a five-way fight for the congressional post.

In May 2013, it will be a one-on-one fight between her and Bataoil.—Eva Visperas
