LINGAYEN–More than 40 participants from various local government offices in Pangasinan joined the Basic/Intermediate Incident Command System Training Course spearheaded by the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) and the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) last November 20 to 23 in San Fernando City, La Union.

The Pangasinan participants were led by Police Provincial Office OIC Director Mariano Luis Verzosa and Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council officer-in-charge Col. Fernando De Guzman.

The training seeks to institutionalize the proper use of Incident Command System (ICS), a tool to organize on-scene disaster response and management mechanism under the Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council during disasters and calamities.

The government launched the program as natural and human-induced disasters are becoming more frequent and climate change has further added to the unpredictability of these occurrences as well as their impact on society.

OCD Regional Director for Region 11 Atty. Liza Mazo, member of the ICS National Cadre and one of the lecturers during the training course, said the activity will be a big boost to the conduct of emergency response.

On the other hand, Ryan Castaneda, also a member of the national cadre, lauded the Pangasinan group whose participants recorded best performance and level of participation.

Castaneda said some Pangasinan participants will be recommended to join the advanced training courses. The best trainees will further move on to the international training course for the ICS. (PIO)
