Dagupan Fiesta to feature new events

MORE people-oriented and public service-centered events have been lined up for this year’s City Fiesta, the hermano mayor, Councilor Red Erfe-Mejia, announced.

Erfe-Mejia said the new events this year will call attention to social issues that need the support of Dagupeños, as depicted by this year’s theme: “Inspired by People”.

These include public service programs “I shaRED! Share Blood, Save Lives!” mobile blood donation program on December 14 at the City Plaza; Alay Sa’yo, Trabaho! job fair where over a hundred placements are up for grabs on Dec. 20 at the People’s Astrodome; and Bingo Sa Basura citywide plastic cleanup bingo bonanza on Dec. 22, also at the People’s Astrodome.

The rich heritage of the city will also be celebrated with the Kalesa Painting on Dec. 14-15 at the City Plaza and Panangaro tribute exhibit in line with the 117th birth commemoration of Dagupeño national artist Victorio Edades on Dec. 20 at the City Museum.

Two sports cups will also be launched: the First Councilor Red Erfe-Mejia Invitational Shooting Cup from Dec. 22-23 at the DPSA Shooting Range in Bonuan Binloc, and the First Mayor Benjamin S. Lim Invitational Kick Boxing Tournament this Dec. 22 at the People’s Astrodome.

This year’s City Fiesta celebration will also be brighter with the Bayanihan Sa Liwanag lighted floats parade competition to hit the downtown area December 26.

Kapuso Fiesta variety show is on Dec. 17 and the Biggest Show Live!, a star-studded free concert, will be held on the night of Dec. 26 at the City Plaza.

Rounding the fresh line of events is the Mga Bangka sa Look, a fluvial parade trekking Pantal River on Dec. 27, the Feast of the city’s Patron St. John the Evangelist.

Festival fixtures are also scheduled as follows: Magic Idol Grand Finals, Dec. 15; Thanksgiving Mass, Dec. 16; Magic Treat Kita Kid and Ex-Men Night, Dec. 18; Barangay Volunteers Day, Dec. 19; Educators Night, Dec. 20; City Employees Night and SK Night, Dec. 21; Pawil Dagupeños and Media Night, Dec. 22; Senior Citizen’s Night and Transport Night, Dec. 23; Barangay Night, Dec. 27; Dagupan City National High School Alumni Homecoming, Dec. 28; Rotary Night, Dec. 29 and Dalton Night, Dec. 30.

Kapamilya Run for Sinocalan fun run and SMB Night sa Pigar-Pigar are fixed on Dec. 15 and Dec. 21-22 respectively.

Grand motorcade, fiesta opening ceremonies and the lighting of the Festival Tree is set on Dec. 15 while the Miss Dagupan 2012 Pageant and Coronation Night, the highlight event of the annual fete, is slated on Dec. 17, 7 pm at the City Plaza.

Capping the festivity is the Rizal Day Celebration, Dec. 30 at the City Plaza.

Honorary chair for this celebration is Mayor Benjamin S. Lim with Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez as the honorary vice chair. (CIO)
