Cultural mapping of Dagupan communities mulled

THE tourism office of Dagupan plans to conduct a study that will identify the culture of every community in the city.

“If there is one project that I want to do next year, it is the cultural mapping of every barangay in the city,” City Tourism Officer Mary Rose Teng Mejia said on Thursday during the KBP Forum.

“I am a staunch believer in cultural mapping. If we know where we came from, we will also know where we can go,” she added.

The cultural mapping will include identification of flora and fauna, delicacy, folklore and history and origin of the names of the communities, Mejia said.

The study will then be able to determine the strength of each community based on its roots, she said.

Other information that the study intends to establish is determining whether Gen. Douglas McArthur actually landed in Bonuan in Dagupan or at the capital town Lingayen town; the origin of bukayo-making in what is now known as Barangay Bacayao.

Dagupan launched earlier this year the Dagupan’s Best campaign to improve the quality and marketability of products unique in each community. (PIA-Pangasinan/ARF)
