LOS ANGELES–Consul John Reyes, recognizing the efforts of the Pangasinan Brotherhood-USA in helping the Filipino community in the US as a whole, has vowed to work more closely with the group in lending a hand to their kababayans, especially those who have not fully adjusted in their adopted country.

Reyes, himself a Pangasinense from San Jacinto, gave special mention to the group’s president, Eddie C. Ferrer, for his leadership in bringing unity among Pangasinan communities in Southern California.

“It’s not a joke to be at helm of the PBA-USA which is the umbrella of local organizations from the province’s 48 towns and cities,” Reyes said.

Addressing PBA-USA’s Holiday Interlude last Sunday at the Cerritos Center of the Performing Arts, Reyes called upon his province-mates to live up to the spirit of giving during the holiday season even as he recollected his experiences as lawyer-pro-bono during his early days of practice.

Pinch-hitting for Consul General Hellen Barbers dela Vega who was called to Washington DC for an emergency meeting, Reyes said those who are less fortunate in life and financially in need deserve help in any kind and form to sustain them during the period of adjustment.

Councilman Mark Pulido of the host city also expressed his support to the association as he expressed his thanks to the association for participating in community activities in the City of Cerritos.

Ferrer who acted as emcee in the five-hour affair described the year-end event as a “night to remember and an evening of food, music and entertainment”.

He was greeted with ovation when he announced the presence of five past presidents “whose leadership made the PBA-USA of what is today”. They are Felix Lopez, founder, Dagupan City; Bing dela Vega, San Carlos; Tony Barlongo, Tayug; Tony Banaag, Dagupan City and Dan Nino, Mangatarem.

Ferrer also announced that a free PBA-USA sponsored seminar on Trade and Cottage Industry will be held on the middle part of January next year.

The program started-ball-rolling with the opening remarks of Bayambang lass Mellie Soriano, chairman of PBA-USA board. Entertainment was provided by different radio, TV and stage personalities. Not to be outdone, the PBA-USA ladies who call themselves Ladies in Motion brought down the house with surprise numbers.
